Shard of glass

Shard

I’m pretty lucky in that my job requires me to move around a bit and calling off at Borough Market for lunch can be part of my daily routine (at least on a Thursday or Friday!). Before the snow arrived, I managed to get these shots of the shard of glass, London latest skyscraper, en route for lunch. When finished, at 87 floors, it will dwarf anything London has seen before…

Oxo Tower

Oxo Tower, originally uploaded by Alan Perryman.

Before I went for cocktails at Cafe Kick yesterday, I aimlessly wandered EC1 with my SLR looking for things to shoot.

I’m rather pleased with this one, taken using Blackfriars Bridge as a tripod…

The full set is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/grimnorth/sets/72157625438184008/with/5195519338/ but I’ll be picking out a few more to show off during the course of this week.

Pontoon

Pontoon, originally uploaded by Alan Perryman.

An archive photo, this one from August 2002 from the Tall Ships gathering at Zeebrugge.

The Belgian navy were pushing this pontoon across the dock using a small boat. Health and safety precautions? That rope keeping people away from the edge of the pontoon!

For the camera geeks, this was taken using a 35mm film SLR, Fujica STX-1 with a 50mm lens. I have absolutely no idea what the settings were…apart from wrong, given the largely bleached out sky!

Man and Big Van

I hope that isn’t the ‘big van’ in question!

Spotted just up from Leyton tube on the way to the Piglet Beer festival at the Orient.

Just a quick picture post today – Boris bikes lined up on the street behind the Mayor’s office, City Hall.

Hayward Brothers

Hayward Brothers, originally uploaded by Alan Perryman.

I like Victorians. Would any other society really have a propensity to try make the most banal items of street furniture vaguely attractive.

Seen on the floor just off Paddington St, Marylebone.

Tube reflections

Posted by Alan on October 16, 2010

Tube reflections, originally uploaded by Alan Perryman.

Outside Farringdon tube – peered through the window in the fence to see if anything interesting was happening on the Crossrail works and noticed the reflections behind.

10 seconds later and perfect timing – the ghostly figure and building plus tube train in the right space.

Still, nothing interesting happening.

Tactful, caring Victorians?

Spotted near Barbican.

Contraflow

Contraflow, originally uploaded by Alan Perryman.

The tunnel under the Barbican. Murky, natural light has little place here.

A midst the occasional black cab, a jogger takes a stroll to answer a phone call.

Just keep going.

Contraflow…
