So this weekend saw the return of ‘Skyride’ (formerly Hovis freewheel) the cycling event that closes off a large chunk of London so Londoners can meander round on two wheels. Apparently this year saw a drop in attendees, with just 55,000 attending compared with last years 80,000 but then it was raining for much of the day so hardly surprising some people stayed at home. It was good fun – but as you might spot in the video above, put a hi-vis on an over enthusiastic marshal and you invoke their internal god-complex and bring the proceedings to a halt. Ho hum.
Of course, away from the Skyride circuit it was situation normal.

Waltham Forest is notorious within the world of cycling blogging, mostly due to the work of freewheeler. But what is is really like? Judge for yourself – using a gorilla pod and a fairly cheap digital camera… I recorded this earlier this year. Look of for cycle lanes that just stop, cycle lanes with bollards in them and lots of parked cars…
(Apologies about the purple streak – I’ve edited out the worst bits. That’ll teach me for heading out at lunchtime…)

Recently I’ve been playing about a bit with some old VHS cassettes to learn how best to convert the old family videos to digital formats before we no longer have devices to play them on! Most of this is family stuff that isn’t really for the internet, but when I found Milnrow Carnival in 1992…well youtube’d it had to be (it’s not a revolution, it’s OK).
On Newhey Road by the card factory.
On Cornfield St outside what was Hollingworth High School… just 18 years go but seems like a whole different world.
For the tech-heads I’ve written a bit more below on the technical aspect.
